Breeders’ Cup:
Bobby’s Kitten gives Ramseys
a lift in Turf Sprint

BREEDERS’ CUP ON KENTUCKY.COM
ARCADIA, Calif. — Owner Ken Ramsey had already endured his share of Breeders’ Cup heartache.
When Bobby’s Kitten, his front-running talent, ended up at the back of the 14-horse field
in Saturday’s Turf Sprint, some all too familiar angst settled in over the Ramsey clan.
“When I saw him last I said, ‘Oh my gosh, another nightmare,'” the Nicholasville-based owner said.
His bay legs churning in a way they had rarely done before, Bobby’s Kitten provided a
Breeders’ Cup bright spot for Ramsey Farm, coming from the clouds to edge No Nay Never
by half a length in the 61/2-furlong test down the Santa Anita Park downhill turf course.
A perpetual picture of emotion, Ramsey has rarely been as post-race despondent as he was
after Bobby’s Kitten’s run in the 2013 Juvenile Turf when the son of Kitten’s Joy
faded to third as the favorite after setting fractions of :22.27 and :45.70.
Twenty four hours after Ramsey-owned Vicar’s in Trouble suffered a condylar fracture
during Friday’s Dirt Mile and less than two hours after stablemate Stephanie’s Kitten
ran second in Saturday’s Filly & Mare Turf, Bobby’s Kitten was still 12th at the head of the lane
but kept coming on the extreme outside under Joel Rosario to earn his first Grade I win
in 11 starts and give Ramsey Farm its third Breeders’ Cup winner.
“Last year was devastating,” Ramsey said. “Today, I went from the depths of depression to the highs of victory. Today was really, really good because this is the horse I think will really make a top-notch stallion. He just needed that Grade I.”
Bobby’s Kitten, covered the 6&1/2 furlong distance in 1:12.73
